Bonnet lock

Featured Replies

Hi sorry if this is out there but I can't find it.

I have a 2009 face-lift 1.6 petrol Focus.

The bonnet still opens but I bought https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Bonnet-Lock-Catch-Cable-Clip-UPGRADE-PART-for-FORD-Focus-C-Max-2004-2011/252245489448?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3Dd975b3de8ef2466294493c44be364bde%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D252245489448%26itm%3D252245489448&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Ae7f50a69-b363-11e8-bb0d-74dbd1804ca6|parentrq%3Ab92fa07f1650aadc786c25a5fffe350b|iid%3A1 and it's come with no instructions!

Is it simply a case of removing the ten mil bolts and pulling it apart?

It opens fine but I keep seeing mark 2 Focus with the grille missing! and I think someone is trying to tell; me something, I presume this still breaks on the 2.5?

Any help will be great

The latch mech is attached with two bolts, and two poppers. Once the bolts are off, just slowly lever off the mech and remove the old white plastic piece and replace with the better one. You will have to cut off a bit of the new one in order for the key to turn though. Just use some good judgement to this.

mk2.5 does it , as this guy explains the silly bit of plastic is a misnomer.... if you can pop the bonnet and release the catch by turning the key 45 to 60 degrees per side you should be fine.  If you are reaching the 90 degrees limit and either is only just releasing the bowden cable is crap and you need a new one

Thanks very much guys!

All done! It was a bit stiff, unlocks at around 45 degrees though, I shaved about two mill off and it seems fine now. the Ford one had gone quite brittle.

What a completely ridiculous design and to carry it forward so many years?

Thanks again.
