'14 100bhp ecoboost, lost all power and won't restart

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just joined and was hoping you could help point me in the right direction with a problem I'm having. My girlfriend has a '14 100bhp ecoboost, full ford service history, and we've just encountered our first issue.

On a trip back from Norfolk to Yorkshire, approximately 1hr into the journey whilst driving along at 60mph the car lost all power and came to a halt. The car would restart immediately after but would have a really weak idle for maybe 3 seconds before dying again. Had it recovered to Yorkshire (at great expensive, screw you AA!) but it won't even start at all now.

The breakdown recovery guy didn't get any codes to start with but unplugged the MAF sensor then tried again and reckoned that was the problem but not sure if he ever got any codes from it. I cleaned the MAF once I got home but to no joy. I have a cheapy OBD reader but that isn't finding any codes either, although I have this idea in my head that it can't read codes properly if the engine isn't running - which obviously it isn't at this point - but no idea if that's correct or not!

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm have a small amount of mechanical aptitude, changed a clutch in my MR2 last summer but did take far longer than I'm willing to admit :D so am willing to give small jobs a go. I'm kind of loath to take it into Ford, even though they might offer some contribution as its FFSH, as I'm sure they will screw me in the ***** with a mega bill.

Anyway, thanks for having me here and any help that you might be able to lend.

If there are no codes and breakdown have confirmed it, it could be an expensive find and fix.

Main dealer will probably be the best way forward although it may be expensive (the way I would go).

I seriously doubt they will offer any financial help or contribution being a fair way into the 4th year (out of warranty). You never know, there are some good ones around.

Best thing to do would be get Forscan and read the codes, generic OBD isn't great.

MAF doesn't usually cause such dramatic issues so I doubt it's that.  Sounds like fuel pump to me...

Code reader will normally read fault codes when engine is not running. you just need it running to view live data from the sensors etc.

why do you say screw you AA?  you either had Relay cover (I think they might have renamed it) or you didn't.

How about disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the ECU... In case something has had a 'moment'
