Ford Fiesta Duratec 1.3

Featured Replies

I need some good advise on my fiesta problem. My fiesta has 94000 miles on the clock the other day it started to stutter and judder when i put my foot down so due to the mileage i changed the plugs and the stutter and juddering stopped. Today i went home and the car lost power it stuttered and juddered and finally the car came to a stop! engine cut out. i turned the key immediately and the engine turned over yellow engine light came on (never came on before only on start up) so i carried on but i could only reach a maximum of 30 MPH and the engine was still stuttering and juddering does anyone know what the problem could be before i try and take the car to the garage.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm not that clued up on the fiesta having been a rover owner until recently but if the engine light is showing and the car won't go any faster than about 30mph then it sounds like the car has gone into 'limp home' mode. This usually means that there is a problem that can cause further damage if you continue to drive it hence why the car restricts its speed so you can just about make it home or to a garage.

Were there any other problems before this with regards running of the engine...any noises, lots of smoke etc???

Someone else may have a better idea than me but if not then a diagnostic test at a garage will tell you why the light has come on and may shed some light onto the problem.

it sounds like the coil pack and to stop the car being damaged its gone into limp mode but i didnt even think it had a limp mode i own one and mine is stuttering but i know it needs new coil pack plugs and leads also a good service

thanks dan

i work at ford, wt years car? is it 1.25 16v engine/ 1.3 8v rocam or old type 1.3 8v rattly engine? have a quick glance over the coilpack look for any obvious cracks first but its not always the case best way to find out correctly is get ur car put on a code reader at a local backstreet or a quick fit or somewere simlar cost you 10-15 quid at a backstreet,if MIl is on there will be a code, look at the code, if its a misfire related it should be something on the lines of p301 which is misfire - cylinder one and so on , take it from there really, but if it does end up been coil, spend that little bit more and buy genuine, micky mouse ones can end up fudged within a year, so it worth spending little bit more, and i agree, once problem cured treat it to a service always helps to maintaine it well lol

also if it is a misfire, i wouldnt run it too long as it can fudge the cat , then its gettin expensive, could try a coil from scrappers, if u wnna just try, if it works ur quids in if not code reader, keep it simple soz for blagg lol
