MK2 Focus Central Locking Fob Not Working (Not Battery, Not Sync)

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a Focus with only one key. When I bought the car the fob never worked and I didn't really care at the time but its beginning to look a little silly now.

I had originally replaced the battery, double checked it was on the correct side etc, nope not that. I then tried syncing it to the car with the 4-turn ignition and button press however you never hear the final beep after you've pressed the button so obviously something else is wrong.

I don't have the spare key otherwise I would just resync it to a new key off ebay. I remember reading on the net a few months back about the board within the keyfob being faulty and needing replacment but I can't find that thread anymore.

Any quick and cheap solutions?

bumpity :)

You're doing the cheap solution...put the key in the door barrel lol.

There isn't another cheap solution I'm afraid.  At best it just needs to be reprogrammed with Ford software, at worst it needs a new circuit board which will then need to be reprogrammed.

If you can get a cheap new key off Ebay which is sufficiently similar to your existing one, you may be able to swap over the remote control (fob) part while retaining the blade and PATS chip in your existing key.

Even if it proves to be not compatible enough for a swap, it may prove that the remote control system on the car works, if it can recognise the new key. Then you can decide whether to get a new key cut and programmed for the PATS system, or to make do in some way.

PATS (immobiliser) is almost independant of the remote control locking part. So a key can be made to work with the remote control, but not PATS, or vice versa.

Re-programming for PATS is possible on a Mk2 Focus, using Forscan, but not particularly easy. Also some locksmiths can clone an existing key, so it will be accepted by PATS as if it was the original, though this is not quite a good a solution as programming PATS (which is done in the car, not in the key). However in most cases it works ok.
