Grinding noise and swerving :/

Featured Replies

So my car has been making an intermittent grinding noise (coming from passenger side of engine) when turning left and right and made an impingement feeling like I couldn't turn the wheel much more. it happens mostly at speed and when swerving more so than.. for example turning at a corner or going around a roundabout. It has gotten worse by which I mean after leaving my car parked in work all day and then proceed onto the straight road, my car begins to randomly swerve and its kind of scary, it happens for about 30 metres on and off and then doesn't do it again unless I turn harshly. I am sure that the swerving is connected to the grinding noise too. I do notice that my car swerves a little if I go over slight bump in the road (under the left side of the car) or an uneven manhole etc.

The grinding noise sound near enough exactly the same as this noise in this video but only happens whe nthe car swerves or if I am driving as I said above....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7KajiAoHVY

I took it to a garage and had new both front brake reaction bushes repplaced on rear of front lower suspension arms as they said they were worn but it didn't fix the issue. Took it to another  garage and they said they couldn't find the problem and connected a computer to it which flagged up nothing.

Sounds like it might be the steering rack.  Do you know if yours is full hydraulic or semi electric?  If not, tell us what engine you've got.

Thanks TomsFocus ☺️ One of the mechanics I go to are really good.. he sat with me today just now just from me popping by. I started to worry about that swerving. At the moment it's avoidable if I drive slower at the start of the journey I think. I finally managed to replicate it and I swerved the car a bit, it grinded and felt like it locked a bit. He immediately said its the abs sensor and told me to check the dash board when it happens next. He thinks a wheel bearing might be causing the sensor to act up.. I couldn't replicate this before hence why I asked on here but today I managed to. PS. I can hear slight grinding if I go over a bump too.
