Air Conditioning pulley not spinning ? MK7 58 Plate

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Looking for a little bit of feed back on a problem I have with A/C. (not the best time of year to fix it) , however.

My A/C has been blowing warm air, since I have purchased the car (1.5 Years ago), a couple of days ago  I purchased a can of EZ Chill & the re-full equipment with gauge,  Hooked it onto my Low air pressure started my car, and it showed 0 . I Began to top it up but the needle began to go all over the place on the gauge and slowly returned back to 0. I disconnected everything as I thought  the problem was something more than just a re-fill of gas.

I read up that my A/C centrepiece of the Pulley should spin every now and then, and I kept a close eye on it but it doesn't seem to be spinning at all. I went through the fuse box and relay's for the A/C and they all seem good? Leads me to thing theirs a problem with the actual Compressor?

I would hate to pay out £100's if this is an easy fix?  Would anybody know if anything else I could check to confirm their is a fault with the unit  and would anybody know  where the best place would be to buy the part?

thank you .

Craig

There's probably a major leak somewhere that won't be fixed with the EZ Chill can.  The compressor needs to run to get an accurate reading on the gauge, but with it being totally empty I doubt it's just general losses.

If you want to check the compressor actually works, bridge out the AC pressure switch with a jumper wire or even an unbent paperclip.  Then start the engine and switch the AC on, the compressor and engine fan should both start running.

I don't think the compressor will run without frigging it if there isn't enough refrigerant in the system. It could damage the compressor if it did.

It's fine as a quick test or while refilling the system, there will still be lube oil in the compressor even once the gas has gone.  Obviously wouldn't run it empty for any longer than necessary though.
