What is the method of removing these? Does anyone have a simplified breakdown of how it comes apart?

    Which end are you trying to remove?  The part in the picture is just a simple push fit.  In theory you just release the tension on the cable, and push the end of the cable out of that joiner.  In practice you'll probably need to bend the joiner open a bit.

    If you're trying to remove the drum end, the inner part just hooks onto the shoe and the outer is a push fit into the drum backplate.
