Regarding the heater matrix, it's plumbed into the same loop as the engine i.e out of the engine, through the bulkhead into the matrix, back out of the bulkhead into the engine so if the matrix or matrix pipework was leaking you'd definitely notice a drop in coolant.

Well I guess that's some good news! I'm obsessing about it now. I need it to rain again to see if more water comes in! Would a car wash have the same effect?

I'd have thought so, if anything the forces exerted by a car wash will be similar but "worse" than even heavy rain.

Sorry I’ve been late but here’s the photo I promised. The hose is the one marked red behind the air con pipes. (It should be connected only at the top-if I’ve marked the wrong hose it’ll be the other one to the left)
