Martin53
When changing the cambelt is it necessary to change the water pump as well.
isetta
No, not if it is in good order, most people say you might as well do I at same time because if it needs doing later on you are paying for all the same labour again . However, if you do replace with a cheap water pump, the cheap one might fail earlier than the original one if you left it on there.
martyntdci
swings and roundabouts. if you left the original in and it did fil after the belt change, the you would need a new belt fitting again also. its good practise to fit both at the same time depends if you wanted use cheap pattern parts, better quality pattern parts. parts from main dealer. just dont get it all done at main dealer,. to have it changed at a garage new belt kit, and pump you should be looking around 250-
stef123
On the 1.8tdci the water pump can be changed without touching the belt if I remember correctly. I’ve always changed the lot when I’ve done timing belts on this engine.
