Most lock out topics on here are regarding vehicles, but mine is my email address which I've had for around twelve years.

Ive been using yhe email account through a Gmail app on my phone for years now,

Suddenly Microsoft flagged my account yesterday morning saying "credentials required for account" 

I haven't entered a password in years so I honestly don't remember it and there offering to send me a text to my phone  

But the registerd phone number hasn't been active in almost six months as I haven't been able to reactivate it, 

I've opt for paperless billing on utility bills and everything, this really is an inconvenience 

I've tried resetting via Microsoft's requirements but there saying no because I'm not providing sufficient information but there only asking to text me or if I've ever used a bank card to purchase anything from Microsoft. 

There not asking anything else.

Anybody any tips please

When I tried before they were asking security questions, what the passwordword I last used was.  If I was linked up to any other devices or email adresses and so on. They offered to tx me a code but I didn't have the same number anymore. I ended up ringing. Hope this helps Mr L

Can't you select Forgot Password so they can email it to you? 🙄😄
