I'm sure most of you are aware by now, VED increases every year at April, here is a table showing the extra you'll have to pay this year.  Those of us with £30 or below remains the same though.

Standard rates for cars registered before March 1, 2017 will go up by a maximum £15

I will struggle on with paying £20 a year thanks. Lol

My tax is due March so I'll miss the April increase to £145 this time round.  Meanwhile our SEAT Mii reg in 2014 is still on £20 even though it produces more CO2 than the Fiesta (105g/km against 102g/km) - funny old world😁!

£740, ouch! It's been a long long time since I've paid that much for insurance.

I'm 41 mate and don't live in a city either.

I actually pay £215 with an enhanced courtesy car but obviously that's optional.

Bit older than I thought then, but still not old enough for insurance that cheap lol.  I don't live in a city either and pay more than twice that for slow, comfort spec diesels...  Could be worse though, having just seen Martyns!

Luckily I'm still going to pay £30 for road tax on my 1.6 TDCI fiesta but then again the mayor is forcing people to get petrol or a newish diesel in 2021

I suppose it's difficult to steal cars where you live though...they'll get caught waiting 6 hours for a boat to the mainland!  That's still stupidly cheap though, a lot of insurers have a lower premium of £200ish as well!  Who is that with out of interest?

This is one of the issues I'm having, trying to find a medium sized petrol car with £30 tax and old enough to be within my purchase budget is pretty much impossible.  Literally the only one I can find is the prefacelift Focus 1.0.  Everything else of similar size is still far too new for my budget currently. 😮

I think I can manage the whole £5 a year extra on my VED (£140 currently).
My tax doesn't run out until the end of April so will just miss out on saving a whopping £5.

My memory seems to be getting worse, I'd totally forgotten about the 2017+ flat rate of VED... 🤦‍♂️  Been searching Autotrader with the £30 tax option permanently ticked and wondering why there was nothing newer than '66 coming up even without putting a budget in...

Just another way for the government to make money. A 2015 BMW M3 road tax is £315 which isn't bad for a sports car but now its gone up. If this keeps up it probably would be around £400 to tax by the time I'm able to work and afford it after getting a property.

I wouldnt give it a second thought Zain because if you own a property and can still afford a 2015 M3 then £400 is pocket change!

I think I might get a flat but put it on rent as an investment then look at getting a house when or if I get married. At first I was thinking of getting a car first when I start working full time but parents are saying it's best to get a property before a car.

I think that's a sound plan. I was going to do that once upon a time but unfortunately met my now ex-wife and then bought a property. Ah well................😀

If I could go back to when I was in your situation I'd buy several properties. Let's face it, apart from the occasional glitch overall they are only going one way!

My father talked me out of buying a 3 bed house for 23k when I was 22 yrs old. Stupidly I listened as you think your parents know best. My dad was worried about the interest rates rocketing back up to 15% and getting me into financial difficulties but that never happened.

I ended up buying a 2 bed semi for 40k when i was 24 which 2yrs later was worth 80k. Like I said, I should've bought several!!!

Yeah, likewise but unfortunately then I was struggling to buy one  property and interest rates were at 15% and you virtually had to beg for a mortgage!

If only you could invent a BACS  transfer combined with a time machine, then I could send my younger self some wedge and now I'd be an old billionaire!😁
