thermostat location

Featured Replies

hi all broadly I need to get at the thermostat on my 57 plate 1.6 the idiots guide (Haynes) says its under the alternator and need to dismantle 90% of the car to get to it including getting new aux belts with special tools.  There are some you tube videos to support this.  however there are comments on here that suggest its under the coil pack and there certainly is a large diameter hose running from the top of the rad that seems to go under the coil pack and into the head on my car.

second question is how can I tell if I have a bog standard engine or one of these fangled variable timing engines

third question is if I have a vvt engine how many thermostats does it have as comments on here seem to imply it has two
