What is it?

Featured Replies

I was poking around behind the climate controls on my fiesta titanium looking to see if the heated seat plug was present, couldn't find it but i saw something that got me thinking what the heck is this. It is a cylinder type thing about 4 inches long and was just lying on top of the heater box, looked to see if there was anywhere it should be attached to but, nothing. Seem to remember something similar i had on my old mondeo ghia x  but that was so long ago i cannot remember what it is for. Looked in haynes manual but can't see any reference to it.

If this is the wee chappy you are talking about, it’s the climate control temperature sensor.a094873ce72a36fd5fa15cc9aaa7bd18.jpg

Thats it Alan, many thanks for your help, my one just seems to be laying there where i'm sure in the mondy it was attached to the dash

Have a wee dig around and see if you can find a connector for it, it should be plugged in, so long as your car has automatic climate control, like the attached photo........ 30fa7961085a6f61123eacc8ffc43de5.jpg

It is attached to a wire but i thought it might have some sort of location where it fixed onto a mounting. Just seems odd that it is just sat there on the plastic housing of the heater box, but at least i know what the little sucker is now.

Yes does sound strange if it’s not clipped into a location, I had my heater unit off as I was upgrading my pre facelift one to the facelift one, I remember seeing my sensor but can’t honestly recall whether it was attached, I assume it was as I do remember seeing and thinking “what the heck is that” lol

I'll have it out again sometime and have a proper look, as you say it is strange that its not clipped in to somewhere. Next job is to find out what plugs are for the heated seats and whether the black connection block has them in already, then i can trace back and find where the switch and cable connect into. I see there is one of the cables available on fleabay with the surround thrown in for £225......don't laugh. i know they are rare but for gods sake get a grip.  Got a quote for the whole dash loom today from a ST3 for £85 which i thought was too much as i only want the heated switch cable but breakers only want to sell you the whole dash loom.

hi bud, it runs down the left side and connects on the left, you have to remove the left side panel by your feet and the connector is there

The reason no one sells it is because although it is technically a completely separate cable, at the factory its taped up against other parts of the loom so "looks" like it's all part of the dash loom when it's not

I was lucky and found a breaker that let me cut it out of a shell he had sitting in the yard

Thanks Liam that is handy to know, so just to clarify you mean  the side kick plate under the left side of the glovebox or the left panel of the centre/dash console.

I imagine that it is the left panel in the middle console area as the lead isn't reall that long is it.

Left panel of dash

Off the top of my head I think its black with a little bit of red on it, its square/rectangle and think its midway down the wires that run on that side parallel to the floor
