Oil Change - Castrol Edge

Featured Replies

So I decided to drop the oil as it's been just over a year so probably just over 6k miles, car was running sweet but I didn't want to take any chances.

I did a search online for what is the best oil for a diesel and it came back Castrol Edge so that's what I went for.

I also decided to use an engine flush for the first time in me life, again my research led me to a product called Liqui Moly. I had read things online about peeps saying you can get leaky gaskets and all sorts when one video review said this was nonsense, so I thought ok, let's give it a bash, bit worried as me car has 117k on the clock.

Anyway I took her for a drive, warmed her up, whacked the Moly in for 10 mins and dropped the oil. To my surprise there were a few chunks stuff in the bottom of the drain tub, so I guess that stuff does work after all 🙂 Rather have it in the tub than in my turbo lol.

Took the car for a drive and I can defo say the engine is quieter than what it was before, other than that I am not sure if it's aided power any as I am doing a few mods of late so it's impossible to say whats doing what. But I can recommend the Liqui Moly, on a 117k motor it seems to have been effective in this oil change.

Yep I can recommend it, my last oil change was clean, this one with the Moly in proved much more thorough. If you do let us know how you get on too. Plenty of vids on YouTube of folks swearing by it. Got mine from Amazon 👍

will do thanks

What engine do you have?

A word of warning for anyone reading this with a 1.8tdci with the wet belt setup, do not use engine flush!

Also if you have a 16v 1.6TDCi, known for carbon deposits, don't use engine flush.  The fact that there are lumps in the oil pan probably means other lumps will have been loosened and are now stuck in the strainers on the oil pump and turbo banjo...

great advice 😊

100% agree with the above comments, last year I used a flush on the wife's MK2.5 1.8 Duratec Focus (chain cam) with fantastic results (it no longer drinks oil) but I certainly wouldn't every put a flush anywhere near a wet belt.
