Mondeo St diesel grinding noise

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Im after a bit of diagnosis, my 2.2TDCI on 99k miles is making a grinding/metal on metal noise between 1400-2500rpm on medium-ish throttle, all belts look ok so dont know if turbo or gearbox related.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

So the sound is definitely related to engine RPM nad not speed i.e. the rev range you mentioned always triggers the noice, regardless of what speed you're going (so basically it doesn't matter if you're in 1st or doing 50MPH in a higher gear)?

nope it does it all speeds up to about 55/60 in fifth gear but as soon as i dip the clutch regardless of speed/rpm the noise goes. ive had a couple of mates saying its the Dual mass flywheel on its way out?

DMF is my guess straight away. Obviously i haven’t seen it so I can’t be certain.
