Fan heater resistor

Featured Replies

Why has the new heater resistor that I struggled to fit, blown after two days us?

Either the fan is worn and drawing too much power, or it was a cheap aftermarket resistor?

Thanks. I think the fan is on its way out.

on my focus the resistor pack blew again quickly because the fan was stiff as water had got into a bearing. So the extra power needed for the fan was overloading it.  I cleaned and oiled the fan bearings and it was fine after that. Both times it blew I did not replace the whole resistor pack, the resistors were fine, it was the thermal fuse both times. The thermal fuse is part of the resistor pack but a new one can be soldered on after buying from ebay for little money.

I also fixed the cause of water getting in there. You might not need a new fan, you might just need to dismantle it and give it some care and maintenance.

Thanks. I’ve just got another fan for a good price. Also bought another resistor.

Just got the lovely job of fitting it all back together.
