Legal ?, Illegal ? or just plain daft

Featured Replies

this is a car at work , just intrested if sticking the number plate on your wing under your light is Legal , illegal or just plain daft , Why would you even think it looks right .

I go for illegal as its not properly displayed to traffic or pedestrian.

If it was on the other side then I'd say it's legal. Just look at the Evo X or most modern Alfa's

Under the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) regulations 2001, part II section 6 it is illegal.
Limited exemptions can apply to vehicles that have a design that precludes fixing plates fully at the front (Alfa Romeo's etc..) however where it is obvious that the vehicle has a recognised fitting location (or a suitable flat area that can be utilised as such) then no legal argument can be applied.
Stick-on vinyl plates aren't legal either.

It bugs me when I see cars with the front plate in the windscreen and the usual 'It just fell off Officer' excuse is offered, but a threat of points and a fine usually has the desired effect.

Thanks Clive , its a proper square reg plate , just screwed / stuck onto the wing . At night below his head light will be near impossible to read as well .

Also bugs me that if I did it I would be pulled immediately , yet others can seemingly get away with it .

How`s your 4 legged friends doing ??

All doing fine.
Willow is due to retire in 6 months and will stay with me as a pet, she's pretty laid back so will transition quite happily.
Jed has 2 years of service left then will also stay with me as he's well in with my wife and she wouldn't talk to me again if I let him go elsewhere.
Treo is still honing his skills but is shaping up to be every bit as good as Willow in her prime, we're due to do his Armed Response support certification soon so have been busy preparing for that.
All three are currently relaxing at a friends (ex fellow handler) farm just lounging in front of log fires, rolling in smelly things and most likely eating way too much good scran [emoji57]

The main issue there is that he hasn't smoothed the bumper...the plate fixing holes are still very noticeable! 🤦‍♂️

Must admit though, cars do look better without front plates altogether!  You can't read them at night with headlights on anyway lol.  It's a shame we don't do like some US states and only require rears.
