Ford Fiesta MK8 Ecoboost 100ps - water leaking into boot

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Anyone else had an issue with water coming into the boot/tyre well of their Mk8 fiesta

I kept finding a 1/4 cup of water in tyre well. Also found the underside of boot carpet was saturated.

I decided to pull back the lining in the area I thought most likely was the cause (offside).

Sure enough I could see a trickle of water to come down through an inch wide (diameter) hole in the steel in the corner (behind all the lining in the far corner). I believe the water is coming through the rubber flap that wasn't sealing tight on the rear light where it meets the boot water drainage channels on the side of the boot window. Tipping water down behind the flap caused water to come through said hole instantly.

On my Focus mk3.5 there is a gap there (not a rubber flap) so I assume that deliberately channels the water down behind the light. I wonder if this is a failure in a deliberate channel behind the light or whether it is reliant on the rubber flap. If it is relying on the rubber flap to seal against the body it is a crap design in my opinion.

Did a quick test with some duct tape to prove the point and it seems to have fix it. So I'm going to get Ford to seal it properly. I could do myself but as it is under warranty I'm not going to risk it.

I forgot to reply to this it was a plastic plug that joins the bumper to the body. The rubber seal was missing that seals it so water hit the plug and went along it and into the cabin. Those rubber flaps are meant to let water go behind them as I thought.

does it occur with normal raining or when you jet wash your car ? my owner's manual recommends against jet washing the vehicle with high pressure hose because water can get trapped in areas like these and slip to sensitive electronic components as well , may be this rubber flap is meant to be that way , I don't know actually , I will check mine , but I have never had issues of that sort and I hand wash my car myself.
