what to swap?

Featured Replies

im looking to buy a ford escort 1.6 1993 and as im downgrading from a tiburon V6 the lack of power is concerning me. I've heard that its easy to engine swap these, so whats the best to swap, not just for power but also ease of install and price.

I have a 1.8i and a 1.6 lx mk5 escort and the power difference is staggering ... however easy to modify and put in a transplant... would be much more than the engine you will have to change tho and not sure how you would start to go about making the running gear etc suitable for the power upgrade ... sounds an expensive way to do it when you could consider other models perhaps like an rst?

the problem is trying to find one under 2K 😅, i m on a tight budget and despite having a nice car already i REALLY need to slower car, just not THAT slow, paying 18mpg isnt great and i need a midsized classic saloon, like the escorts, i couldnt find any 1.8s for a low price so it seemed an engine swap is the best way

They are out there ... I searched for ages but found one she only had 46000 on her and full service history ... I paid a lot less than 2k too !

so what keyword should i look out for? im new to escorts and apparently "escort 1.8" isn't yielding much, also, is the 1.6 really that slow? like 0-62 in 14 sec slow like ive heard?

Not just slower but less additional features like power steering and abs etc
