Ryan_Tango
Looking for some oil for my ST180 but seeing a lot of conflicting information, manual says 5w-20 but when part searching and looking on forums a lot of people are using either 5w-20 or 5w-30, any ideas which is best to go for or does it not really matter? Nismex
I'd go with the 5W-20 personally, but I have a bog standard 1.0T (99) The guide as you say mentions that specifically, afaik the 5w-30 can be used to top up in an emergency but I'd stick to the spec in the manual. The dealer I take mine to has used : Year 1 : Castrol Magnatec Professional E 5W-20 Year 2 : Total Quartz 9000 Future EcoB 5W-20 Year 3 : Total Quartz 9000 Future EcoB 5W-20 Afaik the difference between the 5W20 and 5W30 is how viscous the oil is at higher temps? I guess if you live in a really hot climate (the arid, hot climate of Lancashire counts right?)
Ad@m
Manual says you can use both in the ST, only for the 1.0L 5W/30 is listed as a top up oil. I myself use 5W/30 and would recommend that especially if you drive it enthusiastically.
I'mAnExpertTrustMe
Basically what the 2 above are saying. To simplify in terms of flow - 0 is water - 30 is honey. Both will work just fine in the ST, and a 5W30 might help if you are a little heavy footed. Some say 5W30 is used because normally it is cheaper and makes the enginer quieter (Negligible?) And supposedly it comes out of ford factories with 5W30 in it. But the issue is you will always get conflicting opinions as in the grand scheme, they aren't all that different. I believe most garages would probably go for 5W20 as that's the first choice.
iantt
You can use both. Up to what you can get for the best price.
