I am looking to upgrade my 2009 fiesta. The model i am considering is the new Fiesta, Trend with all the extras and the 100ps ecoboost engine. I know that this engine is perfect for driving in town. My worry is how will it handle the motorway and the occasional road trip to the mountains. Is the 125ps worth the upgrade? Thanks in advance.

It will handle it very well. I believe between the 100ps and 125ps version there is actually no difference in torque and it is available from quite low revs so the car will feel quite eager in both versions. The 100ps engine will easily get you up to speed on motorways and maintain it without an issue. The 125ps will feel a little bit more responsive and offer slightly better performance but the difference won’t be large enough to write the 100ps as an option. On the other hand, if the price difference isn’t very big, it’s probably worth going for the 125 as it’s the sweet spot in the Fiesta engine ranges. If the price difference is a little bit too big - the 100ps is a very good choice too. 

Hi, my mum just got a 1.0 automatic fiesta and she had a 1.4 zetec 2007 previously.  I have driven it and find it surprisingly responsive.  I would suggest that you go and test drive a vehicle and don't be shy in putting the foot down and if possible take it onto a dual carriageway.

Hi elias,  I test drove the 100ps and the 125ps one after the other in quick succession and I much preferred the 125.  For me, personally, the difference was very noticeable. 

The 100ps was fine but when I compared the two of them side by side the 125 felt quite a bit more nippy and less sluggish. 

I agree with DG97,  the 125ps seems like the best overall choice but the 100ps might be good enough for your needs. 

I world urge you to do the same as I did and test them both

The Trend in the UK was very basic and I don't think they make it any more - can you move to a better spec Zetec?

That's true, the trend or the Style as it was known on the MK8 isn't available to buy anymore, at least in the UK. I don't think you could have had it with an ecoboost engine either - just the non-turbo 1.1, which is a bit of a shame as even though very basic, the Style arguably had all you really needed and that was a radio and a/c.
