Trip computer screen faulty.

Featured Replies

Hi

Recently my trip computer on my fiesta zetec s 2011 hasn’t been working correctly. It is intermittent in coming off and on and sometimes it has some dead pixels. I’ve charges the battery a few times and checked it at work so it is a good battery.

Anyome else had any problems and know what it might be, apart from a new instrument cluster.

Thanks

Sounds like the LCD screen is knackered tbh.  You can probably just replace the screen if you're handy with a soldering iron.

There's a company that specialises un cluster repairs-

Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

Yeh I was thinking that, the backlight is always on just the pixels/ digits keep coming and going. I might take it out and have a look.

Thanks for the response

Hi Matt. I have the same issue. Did you manage to get it fixed in the end?

after waiting for a couple of years he bought a different car !!

Matt has not been back to the forum since 23 May 2020

If you have a MK7 and it is the trip computer that tells you the temp, miles etc...  Mine went a few weeks ago, I saw the below videos and decided to fix it myself as Ford would only replace the whole cluster and refurb places ranged from £100 - £200 and I would still have to take the dash out myself and send it to them.  I went on ebay and bought a whole dash cluster for £21 inc delivery (I made an offer to the seller) but they are normally around £25-£30.  This was from a newer year.  It took me no longer than 20 minutes or so and working again. Took out the dash as per the first video and opened them as per the second. No need to solder as the lcd unit just plugs in.

Hi! Sorry it's been a while since my last post. I have only just seen your response!

Thank you for the second video! I haven't seen that one before! Wow does look cheap and cheerful! And the mileage will show without having to reset? Amazing!

I did try to take out the dash to see if it was a loose cable or something and that was quite challenging. Not sure if I'm brave enough incase I mess up everything. I've had the trip computer completely blank for over a year now haha 😅

No worries mate.  Really not that difficult, just follow the steps in the videos. As i just replaced the lcd screen, mileage etc... will be the same.

Thank you! I'll order the dash and give it a go!!!
