Remapping and Checking the ECU

Featured Replies

Hello,

It will be a while before I probably end up going for a remap but is anybody able to advise if after remapping there is any way to check if the ECU has been overwritten? I'm asking this from the warranty perspective to see if there is any way for a dealer to check for a remap and attempt to invalidate the warranty.

This has been asked many times and there are conflicting answers, including from Ford techs. It’s seems that there is a counter to show how many times the ECU has been flashed, that is accessible to Ford techs with the high end service equipment, but isn’t usually looked at. So the answer is “maybe”.

This is what superchips have to say.

Is a Superchips remap detectable by the manufacturer? In most cases, no. Some manufacturers can tell that something has changed, but not necessarily what. Your Bluefin stores the vehicle's factory settings in its memory, so you can revert to this whenever you wish.

Fair enough, I think for any normal warranty work or any other work, it's so unlikely they would check this that it's probably not much of a risk.

Yes, i spotted that but took it with a tiny pinch of salt as it was still quite unclear if they can or not but it's quite a fair response all things considered. Always a plus that you store the factory map and can revert back as you please from the comfort of your own drive.

I can imagine 😄 For the price/performance gain, it’s extremely tempting...

Some dealers can see the ecu has been flashed as it has a counter, i'm not sure if the count goes up when you have the car in for work (service, etc) and they update the software from the manufacturer? if this is the case then if you remap the car and put it back to stock upon any dealer visits you can say it was updated by another dealer due to glitches, etc?
