Bonnet lever not working - feels loose - any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've gone to put some windscreen wash in my car and noticed that the bonnet latch isn't working (it feels really loose and isnt tight like it used to be)

Any ideas what could be the issue?

The link is broken.

Did it feel normal the first time you pulled it? Then felt loose thereafter? I'd say either the cable is broken/come off or the mechanism needs a good lube up.

It's possible the bonnet latch has opened slightly. The last thing you want is for the bonnet to fly up doing 70mph on the motorway (I've been there, a few pints and a taxi home were required 😂😂).

Get someone to push down on front of bonnet while you pull lever and the let go of bonnet while lever pulled as fad as possible, this helps if the problem is rusty/ dry mechanism that needs oil. Won’t help if cable broken etc. At first sign of stiffness attention is needed to remedy, putting up with it being stiff results in snapping
