Auto A/c

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Have a MK7 Zetec S TDCI, Every time i start up my car the Air Con automatically turns on. Is there a way of stopping this?

Thanks Nick

Have you got the dial on window demister only (all the way to the right). If so the A/C come on auto.

I think it's also designed like that because a lot of people forget to use their A/C occasionally in the winter and this can cause all sorts of problems. On my mums car the A/C is always on for this reason and you have to turn it off manually.

Yes it was on that setting, that makes sense thanks

What happens if you don't use it in winter?

The AC will be come less effective and your system will need regassing. Mine needed doing in my mk6, main problems were warm air and rubbish flow rate.

Not quite sure why it happens, might be something to do with loss of compression in the system.

check as Jack says - the AC is not designed to continually come on at start up.

Turn the airflow direction knob one position away from the windscreen to stop the AirCon coming on

Forgot to say my mums car is a VW Golf. Mine is the fiesta. Personally I do run the aircon sometimes due to the lower humidity and ability to have internal air on without steaming the windows up when in rush hour traffic.

I was told some pipes in the system dry up if you don't use it and thats why it should be used at least once a week in winter.
