Fitting front mudflaps query.

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the image attached is standard on a 21 plate Focus or limited to certain trim levels ?

I have them on my Titanium X and infuriatingly they prevent the simple task of fitting genuine Ford mudflaps, even when removed the shape of the wheel arch where they are attached prevents fitting.

I'm not prepared to alter the wheel arch so has anyone got any experience of this situation or any advice please ?

Thank you.

I'm now in discussion with Ford querying why these don't fit when Ford say that they do....

It defies belief that something that should be so simple ends up ridiculously difficult 🤔

Those trim pieces are fitted to other models. After your previous thread I took more notice of my neighbours Mk4 next time I passed it. That's an ST-Line and has the same trim fitted.

This is a common issue with mudflaps though. Bodystyles do change over time and trim levels. Sideskirts often stop flaps fitting. And the Active models have additional arch trim which stops them fitting, for example.

I don't know what's topping them on your car though. Must admit I'm not a fan of mudflaps, I'm usually removing them rather than fitting them.

The shape of the wheel arch that these are attached to is roughly the same shape as the piece of trim, it's flat and wider compared to the rest of the arch, the moulding of the supposed purpose made / tailored flaps prevents flush to the arch fitting, removing the trim makes no difference.

The rear set fit perfectly. 🤔

@TomsFocus I've also noted that even if the trim is removed, when offering up the flaps to the arch several of the four mounting holes that attach the trim are visible above where the mudflap would be.... if it would fit.😳

Can you post a link to the ones you bought, or post the part number from the packaging if bought offline?

Yes, I will, they were purchased direct from Ford via eBay.

Is this attachment any good Tom ?

Appreciate the screenshot but that doesn't show the part number unfortunately.

If you click the 3 dots in the top right hand corner, there should be an option to 'share link'.

Ok, I have found them now. Although it doesn't say on that link, the fronts ones are specifically for cars without the 'dress-up kit' which usually means side skirts.

These are the ones you've got - Genuine Ford Focus Mk4 Front Moulded Mud Flaps Kit Less Dress Up 18-19 2136905 | eBay UK

This is a different type, which maybe what you need. Honestly I can't tell by eye though. Genuine Ford Focus Mk4 Front Mud Flaps Contoured Splash Guard Kit 2018- 2339843 | eBay UK

Thanks Tom my sills don't have side skirts or dress up, just the black soft sill cover which doesn't interfere with the fitting in any way.

The " less dress up " mountings appear to be significantly different

See my attached image of the ones I have noteing the pre drilled mounting holes.

So are we saying the other type wouldn't fit either? Not sure what to suggest in that case.

There is a third type for the Active models, but they definitely won't fit Titanium X without all the extra arch trim.

Au contraire Tom, I think the ones you linked to will possibly fit, looking at the flat, offending trim like area around the mounting hole, ( only one though ) ?

The Active ones are a definite no no.

@TomsFocus

You've solved the issue Tom, 🙌 that link you provided has been confirmed by Ford to be the correct part 👍, I have ordered them.

I now have the nightmare of trying to obtain a partial refund as I've fitted the perfectly fitting rear mudflaps.....

Thank you very much for your help Tom 👍

Glad we got there in the end. 🙂
