Ib6 gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Is the IB6 gearbox in the focus the same one used in the ST180 ?

Wondering before I start tuning as I heard the IB5 is weak in focus.

Thanks

Ib5 is 5 speed, ib6 is 6 speed.

It's the same type of box but the ratios are different between the ST180 and 1.0EB Focus.

Seems to be a stronger box than the old IB5 of the Mk6 Fiesta's so far...

Great to hear 😄

Sorry to bring this up again but can Focus ST axles fit a Fiesta ST box?

No, they cannot.

The Focus MK3/MK3.5 ST uses a completely different transmission from the Fiesta MK7.5 ST.

The Focus MK3/MK3.5 ST uses the MMT6 transmission.
The Fiesta MK7.5 ST uses the B6 transmission.

Thank you for your reply, from what I've learnt the Fiesta box is a mazda box with a 20 spline clutch. I miss the days when all ford boxes fit all ford engines & the only difference was clutch sizes.

The B6 transmission was not developed or manufactured by Mazda.

This transmission was developed in the early 2010's by Ford in collaboration with Getrag. The Ford B6/Getrag 6MTT280 (different names for the exact same transmission) is manufactured at the Ford Halewood transmission plant. This transmission was specifically developed for the medium power/torque engines.

Due to the partnership of Ford and Mazda and Volvo being owned by Ford the B6 transmission has also been used by Mazda and Volvo during the period these manufacturers shared Ford platforms and drivetrains. This however ended after Ford and Mazda ended their partnership and Volvo was sold.

The B6 transmission was only available as FWD.

The MMT6 transmission was developed in the early 2000's by Ford in collaboration with Getrag. The Ford MMT6/Getrag 6MTT450 (different names for the exact same transmission) is manufactured at the Ford Cologne transmission plant. This transmission was specifically developed for the higher power/torque engines.

Due to the partnership of Ford and Volvo the MMT6 transmission has been used by Volvo during the period Volvo was owned by Ford. This however ended after Volvo was sold.

The MMT6 transmission was available as both FWD or AWD (Focus MK3 RS and Kuga).
