Powertrain Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm a newbie here, so please bear that in mind.

Two months ago I purchased a 2013 1.25 Fiesta Duratec with 26k miles on it. There was no documentation with the vehicle, but the seller had a sound reputation and agreed to provide me with a letter supporting that fact, which I thought would be useful in the event of selling the car on at some later date.

I am 2 months in to the 3 months warranty that came with the vehicle and suddenly I am seeing the "Powertrain Warning Lamp" lighting up from time to time, with a subsequent reduction in performance when it does.

The vehicle had 3 previous owners before myself and I became concerned that I had bought a "lemon", despite the visually excellent condition of the vehicle. Has anybody else had any experience of this particular Powertrain issue? If so, I would really appreciate hearing from you before I decide that the car has to go back to the dealer because the nature and seriousness of the problem can't be established.

Thank you very much for any help that you can give - Margaret

If you are still under warranty, why not just take the car in for a proper diagnosis to save any worries?

If the performance drops, chances are the engine is going into a limp mode but it’s pretty difficult to say what exactly could be causing it without looking at the car or having more info other than the light coming on.

Saying that, the 1.25 is a pretty straight forward and reliable powertrain so given the age of your car, it’s possible the issue won’t be difficult to diagnose and fix.
