Dyson cleaner Problem...Noise when i turn off....

Featured Replies

Don't know if anyone can help, got a up-right DC40 Multi and had it for 5 years 4 months,1 week before warranty ended i rang them as when i turn it off it made a winding noise as the motor slowed down so being under 5 years cover they came, checked it and said the motor filter is warped so had a new one free and ok,4 or so months down the line the same again so i washed the filter as i always do and left it dry for 2 days but still the same.

Has anyone had this problem as what it seems like the motor is getting hot and bending the filter so don't fit, taken filter off and tried it and fine or just lift the filter away a bit when on and ok.

Ordered 2 news ones (copied) as got original one now and try that but if not it goes and looking at another which will not be a Dyson as had Dyson for 10 years or more.

Might try a cheaper one but a Cylinder one for a change.

Got to say im going towards the Shark DuoClean Powered Lift Away as then lift it off and easy to clean car like a Hand Held/cylinder type and for £240 its half of the Dyson.

And about 4x the weight.

Future-In-Laws got one and hate it.  Sure, sucks well but it's so heavy!!

Not mention the ridiculously short cable and the hose that's so stiff it pulls the hoover over if you exceed half its stretch.

Oh ok thats in the bin then, don't seem much out there to compete with the Dyson, ours has been faultless for 6 years and this is just down to the motor through age getting that bit hotter and making the filter warp so don't seal, well i say the filter its the backing plate which i have ordered a second hand one a 2 new copied filters and take it from there.

Cheers SeanW  as was looking at them.

I take it you've cleaned ALL the filters and checked for blockages?

Sounds like the motor's working too hard and overheating 🤔

Yes mate,i clean them as close to 3 months as i can,as it was the cover (5years)was running out the first time like 5 days left so rang them and was just inside it so a Dyson person came

round and tested it and said the filters are clean,he asked how i dried them mainly the round one on the motor and said i put it on the floor under the radiator not on the radiator and he

said the filter is warped so not fitting flat, turned on with no filter and fine so gave me a new filter which had lasted around 4 months and not cleaned until now and the noise again so cant

be me drying it as i never took it off to wash and being a new Genuine Dyson filter so ordered some cheaper ones and another backing plate as seal is attached to it.

I have been doing this for years so if its how im drying its taking 5 years to warp the filter...don't think so.
