Questions on a Mk6.5

Featured Replies

Heya! Proud new owner of a 58 plate mk6 facelift, and I've got a few questions.

  1. Terminology: It's a 58 Plate, post-facelift. What Mk should it be called?
    I've seen people calling it a Mk6 Facelift, a Mk6.5, and a few cases of it being called a Mk7. As far as I'm concerned, it's a Mk6 Facelift (05-08), but should be a Mk5 facelift if the mk4 facelift (99-02) wasn't called the mk5.
  2. Interior Light: the interior light switch has three positions; the middle position should be "turn on when doors open", right?
It's currently in the off position; both of the other two positions turn the lights on and keep them on. This makes me think one of the doors isn't making an electrical connection when closed, but the dashlight for a door being open isn't on, so I don't know what.
  3. Boot Light: How do I access the bulb on the right hand side of the boot?
The light in the boot doesn't turn on, no matter what position the switch is in. I imagine it's blown.
  4. Dashcam: I have a hardwiring kit for my dashcam. Where do you reckon would be the best place to attach the grouding (negative) fork, and should I be alright to plug the fuse tap into the front heated windscreen fuse?
I was tempted to just electrical tape the grounding fork to the nearest bit of exposed metal, but that didn't seem right. My reasoning for using the front windscreen fuse is that if I wire it wrong and it blows, I can reach forward and wipe it while driving, where as if I blow the rear window I can't reach it.

Thanks, and sorry for asking so much in my first post.

I can only answer re mk numbers. Uk numbers differ from elsewhere. On parts compatibility eg. eBay the 2002-2008 fiestas are normally shown as mk V (Roman five). But in uk we called the new 2002 model mk6 whereas other countries called it mkV.  Yours- It’s a mk6 facelift and commonly called mk6.5 in uk.

Thought I'd do a quick update on this:

  1. Terminology: settled, mk6 facelift/mk6.5
  2. The middle position on the switch IS working correctly; it's just does dimming when the doors are locked or when the engine turns on (as opposed to my old mk4 which was either on or off, dependant on the doors)
  3. Still need to work out how to get to this bulb.
  4. Found some youtube videos that were very helpful, mainly this one: https://youtu. be/bdg6eAs6loI

Yet another update:

3. I read the manual. Found out I was blind, and getting to the bulb was easy - turns out there was no bulb in it, so that should be an easy fix.
