What wheels do people replace the Mk7 Titanium Wheels with?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife's Mk7 Titanium (2010) has buckled wheels, having read a bit on the internet it appears that this is quite common. I'm therefore reluctant to buy secondhand OEM wheels or even new OEM.

What aftermarket wheels have people replaced them with (keeping the same size / tyre profiles)?

I've seen mention of Team Dynamics 1.2 but looking on the Demon Tweaks website I'm not sure they're available in the right size. I don't want anything blingy, just something stronger in the correct size.

As far as I can tell the correct spec is 16" 6.5j et47.5 63.3 bore but I have also seen reference to et41.5.

Any advice gratefully received - or if there is a definitive thread can someone point me in the right direction.

Cheers

Any 4x108 PCD wheel in the 16” x 6.5 - 7” range will fit. As long is the bore is 63.5 or greater the wheels will fit. If the bore is bigger you should fit metal spigot rings. Any ET from 47.5 down to 32 will fit also.

https://www.wheel-size.com/ is a reasonable guide.

Ok thanks. I thought there might be a wheel that's commonly used but maybe not.

It does seem common - I bought a Titanium on the standard 16" multispoke wheels through Ford Direct about 9 years ago and it had steering vibration which turned out to be buckled wheels. The dealer swapped them for a set from another they had in stock and they turned out to be buckled also.

I've not heard of it on other types of wheel - friends have had later (Mk 7.5) Titaniums, and  Zetec S with no issues.

Ah ok, maybe I should try and find some wheels from a Mk 7.5.

I know low profile tyres increase the chance of buckling, but it seems like the design or material spec makes these wheels particularly vulnerable.

There are some wheels much more prone to buckles regardless of tyre size.  On the Mk6 Fiesta the Zetec S 16" alloys buckle really easily, but the 17" ST alloys seem more robust despite hardly any sidewall.  They feel a lot heavier though so I reckon it's a different alloy mix as you suggested above.

If you're going to the expense of changing alloys, you might as well have a look around for some you like visually like, rather than just what might be stronger.  There's loads to choose from.

Also, as you mentioned the offset (ETxx) in the OP, standard wheels have varying offsets so that doesn't have to be identical, it just determines how far the wheels sit from the hub so you can go s few mm either side of OE without any problems.
