Mk5 Fiesta Dash Rattle

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I bought a MK5 Fiesta just before christmas. It is a 1.25 Freestyle with the Zetec Engine.

It has developed a rattle from what sounds like behind the dashboard on the passengers side. When it started It could only just be heard when doing about 60mph on a motorway so I thought it was the wind making the plastic water trim that catches the water at the top of the engine. Over the past few weeks it has got noticeably louder and can now be heard when driving at speeds between 30mph and 40mph on normal roads.

So far I have removed the plastic water tray under the engine, removed my CD player in case the metal frame and/or surround were lose, and removed the face plate from the side of the dash that faces the passengers door in case it was rattling between the two. None of these have solved the problem.

I use the car alot to get to and from work and this is becoming more and more frustrating. Does any one know what this might be?

Sounds silly but have you checked your glovebox and door bins?

I have indeed :) Door bins are empty, and the glovebox only has my ipod in it. I removed the glovebox actually and went for a drive but it made no difference.

hmm, i haven't a clue then! Sorry to use the F word but it might be worth going to Ford

Was hoping to avoid them tbh, was hoping it was a known issue or to find someone that had experience of the same issue. Might just wait until the warmer weather gets here and buy myself a haynes manual and play around myself :) As long as the dash doesnt fall on to my lap I'll jus drown out the rattle using the stereo for the time being lol
