Brains Needed - Fiesta Zetec S Mk5 Gearbox Oil Level

Featured Replies

Hello Chaps,

My brother has a 2002 Fiesta Zetec s with the 1.6 engine. The gearbox started leaking from the end plate, so had to whip it off and reseal it. Obviously, lots of oil has already leaked and more came out during the change. My question is how much oil needs to go back in. Some say you just fill it until it starts seeping out the fill hole, others say it needs to be 5-10 mm less than the hole and to use a bent piece of wire to check. I've read conflicting opinions and don't want to overfill her and cause the gearbox to go pop. Any advice would be appreciated.

If checking the level, then use the bent piece of wire to determine the level.

When topping up, add oil till it starts to run out (or down your arm!), then wait until it stops running out the refit the plug.  Make sure you are on level ground when you do this.
