egr

i have just had a new egr valve fitted on my 2010 ford focus 16tdci.but the engine warning light comes on intermitently and i get a code telling me the egr valve is stuck closed .i have been told that it has to be programed by ford and wonder if this could be the problem,i have also told i could be the egr sensor ,does anyone know where this is situated, i would be grateful for any advice as i am at a loss as to what to do next

If you've got a laptop and are slightly tech savvy you can reset the EGR adaptions yourself for free with Forscan (plenty of info on Forscan if you search this forum).  It does need doing after fitting a new EGR, but I would expect any garage to be able to do this after fitting a new EGR nowadays.

I don't think these use an EGR sensor (although someone may correct me on that), they use the MAF sensor to determine air flow.  When the EGR opens, less air should move through the MAF.  If the same air flow is detected when the ECU requests the EGR to open then it will assume the EGR is stuck closed.  The MAF is the sensor attached to the air filter box.
