Focus 1.6tdci Whooshing Sound After Forscan Static DPF Regen

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Recently bought a focus and have been looking to get it working as it should (use to occasionally get a "misfire" when cruising at 70 ish, but blasting along the bypass in 3rd/4th sorted it, it would seem)

I did a static DPF regen using forscan, just to make sure I'd actually got the dpf clean, yesterday (it failed at about 7 minutes in) and since then I can hear a "whooshing" sound when accelerating.

Don't want to influence what your guys' suggestions will be, but from a quick bit of googling, I can see that it could be something to do with a split pipe/hose coming from/going to turbo.

I've had a quick inspection of what I can see surface-level and a quick feel to see if I can find it, but can't see anything immediately obvious.

I think I tried to see if it made the whooshing sound when parked in neutral, to identify where it was coming from but there wasn't an apparent noise.

I am also getting a bit of a loss in power, like the turbo isn't kicking in as it should.

No DTCs present in forscan, but will check again tonight.

If you need anything else, just let me know and I'll respond as soon as I can.

it has been known for metal intercooler pipe to crack on these where a bracket is welded to it. I am sure I have seen it on this forum

Don't know how I missed it, it was a big hole on the back of the plastic resonator pipe that's right on top of the engine.

£25 on eBay to fix.

I'll let you know how it goes replacing it.

£25 part from ebay (Ford Part 146515) has sorted it nicely, driving better than ever. 🙂
