Little bit of advice required

I’ve got a mk6 Escort, and I’ve just replaced the o/s front control arm, it’s all on and back together, it’s the note in the Haynes manual that’s bothering me, when I was looking at torque figures it says that you have to torque the control arm nuts with the suspension at rest, and this is the thing I’m tussling with, how to get access to do that? Could I measure from the driveshaft centre to the top of the arch, then jack it up and shove a ramp under the wheel and then lower it until I have that distance? Not keen on driving up on ramps alone, I’ve nobody to help me with that. Thanks! I’ll do an intro in a minute!
