Mk1 Thermostat Housing Retrofit...

Featured Replies

Afternoon all, i have an idea that id like to run past you...

After finding ANOTHER water leak from my thermostat housing i started browsing ebay for said item and was far from impressed with the few results i got. Then i remembered that the Zetec engine in my focus was effectivly just an update from the one fitted into Ford escorts. So searching this i cam across a ford escort thermostat housing that from what i can make out is made cast metal rather than crappy plastic. Ive eye'd them both up and i can't see any reason why i cant fit a better quality metal housing from an escort for a fraction of the price....Afterall they are the same engine.

Has anyone heard of this being done or know of any reason why it could'nt?

Thanks.

Andy

without bing able to visually compare the two its difficult to say really i personally havent heard of it being done but that doesnt mean it hasnt the zetec is quite a bit different from its predecessor though and the thermoplastic houising i assume was seen as a better option to the old unit from experiences its the gasket between the plastic housing and the head that causes issues not the actual housing itself but you would need the two side by side to compare them in honesty
