Amber Engine Light - DPF Regeneration help

Featured Replies

Hi All,

New joiner and know zero about cars and engines so please go easy on me.

I purchased an 2008 S-MAX 2.0 TDCI (Automatic Diesel) 3 months ago. I only ever do short journeys and very rarely go on the motorway.

Last week my engine Amber light came on, the car runs as normal (not in limp mode) and  I have not noticed any difference in the performance. Regardless, I have taken it to my garage who said they are getting a DPF error code and have referred me to another garage who deal with diesel cars.

In the interim, I took the car on the motorway, put it in 4th gear and drove at 60mph (3000 Revs) for 30 mins and then turned around and drove home normal for another 30 mins. My aim was to make the car do a regeneration.

My question is, would the car be able to a regeneration if the engine light is on, or would the engine light being lit prevent this? If the car was able to regen, and cleared the DPF filter, would the engine light need to be reset if all now ok?

Total shot in the dark but does anyone have appox figures for the following:

Garage – forced regen – £££?

Garage – DPF wont regen – sent away for cleaning - £££?

Garage – DPF replaced - £££

Apologies in advanced, I passed my test in Jan, my first car failed after 3 months, saved up for another 3 months to purchase S-Max and now this is happening. Hoping that what ever needs doing wont cost more than a grand.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Ron

I had problems with mine and the AA man said they wouldn’t regen unless they had more than half a tank of fuel in them. Ford quoted me 2k after already charging me 900. I took it home and called the AA who put it into regen mode and fixed it completely.
