Ford Focus Problem (Again) Engine Sounding & Feeling Rough

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have started to have problems with my focus again... As I was driving along today on my way to work today.. the car started to feel and sound rough.. On the dashboard a orange/yellow light came on with a pic of the engine on it.. it flashed for about a minute or two. When I got to work I checked the oil level, which seemed fine. I just changed the oil and oil filter last saturday. Along with the drive belt.

Anyone have any idea what could have/be cuasing the engine to feel and sound rough.

My car is a 2001 ford focus 1.6 ghia manual with 67K~miles on it.

I started the engine again.. it is still running but feels and sounds rough

Thanks in advance guys :)

Reading up a bit on the web.. looks like I need to check the coil pack, HT leads and spark plugs.

Which I will do tomorrow, I hope the car don't break down on my way home tonight from work.

if the ghts up then the res a code stored that will point you in the right direction coil pack and plugs will usually cause misfiring not the kind of symptoms you describe you need it hooked up to pin point the exact fault are you sure its been timed up correctly when the belt was done?was it an independant or dealer? could be anything from timing out incorrectly done belt a down sensor faulty injectors etc get the code read first

I changed the drive/aux belt myself last saturday. The cambelt/timing belt has not been changed or touched. The car upto til this afternoon has worked fine

i would almost rule out coil pack and plugs is the car misfiring at all? youre best bet is to get the codes checked as it can be a lot of things

it was the coil pack, causing the problem. I have changed the coil pack and the problem was resolved. Had to take it to a garage though to hook it up to a error/ecu reader and reset it in order to reset the engine management light.

Have been driving the car for 4 days now with no problems and the engine management light has not come on again thankfully :)
