Buzzing Noise from Aux Socket

Howdy, I'm just getting to know my new (old) S-max and have found a really annoying problem. If I plug my iphone into the Aux socket in the glove compartment it plays music ok but there is a very loud buzzing noise. It's louder without the phone plugged in but starts as soon as I select Aux input on the stereo. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas for a fix?
