Which fuel?

Featured Replies

Hi , I’m a Fiesta ST3 Owner, since new I’ve been running on super unleaded petrol? Am I wasting my money or do others do the same ? Thanks.

If you drive like a granny everywhere and never really use the power then yeh it's kind of a waste. Also if you have some sort of finance deal that means you'll be getting rid of the car in a couple years time then there's no point.

It's only really a necessity if you plan on remapping as it gets tuned to the higher octane fuel rather than a flexible map that can be limits power due to any old petrol being used. Putting v-power etc. in the tank on a stock map no noticable difference to performance.

Some people argue about mpg differences, but if you're worried about 1mpg then you cannot be driving its car to it's full potential to start with, and it's so negligible that I would argue its within the margin of error too.

You'll always get one anal wet wipe (the type that spends his whole weekend polishing his exhaust tips and knows nothing about engines) that will tell you that you must run on v-power at all times or your engine will explode.

The stock map of the mk8 ST does adapt to the higher octane fuel.

I ran mine on only 97 from when I got it, then switched to 95 for a road trip and it ran really rough for a whole tanks worth of fuel until it readjusted.

well I used vpower in my Fiesta ST deffo got mpg increase when stock, and felt a benefit when mountuned. Now use it in my S1 to get 5mpg increase which pays for the extra cost.

but here's my experience on my second car a old Ford Mondeo ST TDCi .

so the question of is super diesel any good gets a hammering. but I will throw this result out to you all.

picked up a Mondeo 2.2tdci St with 147841miles ob the clock, with a full serivce history. over my normal driving week it did 39mpg. but I decided to run BP ultimate in it and found the mpg increase.

Now after a few top ups and 654miles the result is 53-55 mpg tested tank by tank top ups.

Also put her the rolling road to see how she was running and got 150.5hp @3419rpm and 382.45nm torque. For those that don't know that pretty much what ford quote for the 2.2tdci lost 1.5hp but gained 2.45nm torque. not for a 148000+ engine.

based on my normal driving route, and assuming the increase in mpg is the fuel cleaning and easier to burn fuel due to its high cetene rating etc as claimed it works out to arround to saving £201.47 a year driving 7000miles

Oh The mpg is still going up !! think that's a thumbs up to super fuels.

Newer engines may not get a boost in mpg but keep the engine running cleaning and under less strain and negate losing power to build off crap.

Just a little up date on S1 that normally runs on V-power.

I had some supply issues getting power and had to make do with standard fuel my mpg went down to 26, back on v-power back up to 29mpg. The increase in. mpg saves 1p per mile 3.42 a year on a 7000 mile usage) on the S1 but only has 16000 miles on the clock, doesn't feel an difference to run, maybe just keeping the engine clean.

So 148000 mile mondeo 15+mpg difference 16000mile s1 3mpg. Either way both my cars have mpg increase that pays the extra price in the fuel.
