Mondeo Titanium X Estate Car Juddering

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

Just needed some advice please, I have taken my car to our local garage but they haven't been very helpful
so just looking to see if anyone can shed any light onto the issue I'm having

Basically I have a Ford Mondeo (12 Plate) 2.0 TDCI163A Titanium 5dr Powershift (Automatic) Estate, it's done really well and use to enjoy driving it,
but it's had these faults for quite a while now and it's been worrying me as I'm not sure if it's just something minor or might be serious.

The car seems to be:
-(Not all the time) - Juddering when I accelerate from idle. Once I'm driving it's fine and can't feel a thing. Automatic gear changes are fine, no issues.

-(Not all the time) - After driving for a good while, when idle (say stopped at a traffic light) - car starts shaking/juddering, it's sounds as if the
engine is reving up and down each second, just sounds like it's really poorly! When I accelerate, juddering/shaking stops, but when back to idle it starts again.
This only happens once in a blue moon every week or so.

The garage told me that it should just go away and put some diesel additive, but it hasn't helped.
I have done long trips (100 mile round trips + 200 mile round trips) every month or so, but it puzzles me what it is.
I'm so concerned I was thinking of taking it to someone who knows there stuff but who can you trust these days!
Like Ford themselves, but their prices are scary as it is.

Kind Regards,
Jake

I may not be able to help but have a few questions...

  • How many miles has the car done?
  • How many miles do you normally drive each day
  • Is it serviced as scheduled?
  • Has it had the service carried out on the gearbox (not part of the normal service, should be every 3 years or 37500 miles whichever is sooner)?

Hi @Frembrit

Thanks so much for your reply.

  • The car has done around 62000 miles
  • Each day varies but a few short runs up and down (drop kids at school/shops/food..etc)
  • Twice a month Long trips 100-200 miles
  • Yes, service with our local garage every year
  • I'm not sure in regards to the gearbox, I never knew it was meant to be serviced, I only know they have done the standard interim, full service...etc

Kind Regards,

Jake

Yep, imperative to get the powershift serviced from what I've read...have a look/search through HERE

About £300 for the powershift service, the oil is the expensive part.

Super, thanks @Frembrit 🙂

I'll get it looked into, much appreciated.
