Fitting Bluetooth

Featured Replies

Hey guys, i was just wondering if anyone else has wondered about trying to fit bluetooth to a new fiesta which doesn't has it as standard. Preferably i would want to be able to install the orginal bluetooth which works through the head unit.

Any ideas would be bril!

thanks guys!

Yes you can retro fit a bluetooth system to one that didnt have it as standard. If a Ford dealer does it they will proberly rip you off for about £400-£500. The bluetooth unit itself is a nokia unit so other phones may not be fully compatible. If you plan to do it yourself you will proberly need the specific tools so that you can remove the radio fo ease of access. You will also need to update the firmware on the radio so it will reconise the bluetooth and work im not sure how this is done but hopefully will do soon. Lastly there are 2 types of bluetooth unit for the mk7. The 2nd unit will shortly be availible within the next mounth from what im told but this one will be compatible with a larger range of phones ( will update with specific part number when i get it)

Honestly your better off installing a parrot system then going through the hassle of having an original fitted.

I bought one of these of ebay. Very simple to use. Works with ANY bluetooth enabled mobile phone. Quick to set up and when in use the conversation is crystal clear. Cost around £17 to £20.Works with up to 2 mobiles also. You could push the boat out a little and get one that reads your text messages to you too.

Ive found out about the firmware for the radio unit to reconise the bluetooth unit in short a dealer has to update it for you as they have the equipment. In terms of price for the bluetooth unit it will cost between £200-£300 its really not worth the trouble having an original fitted at that cost.

Get a parrot fitted there is one in halfords with a screen for £200 if you shop around online you can proberly get it for £150.

Cheers man, yeah that's i was thinking, might have to wait a few months first got £500 to go out to repair my car due to pot hole damage! My mates just getting the parrot fitted so will see how it sounds n stuff when i get in his car.

I just want the original one in dash, think it looks a lot, i would need a new head unit, display, and indicator stalk!

Can I ask which dealer you contacted as the ones i've spoken to have all said this cant be done aftermarket as it has to be done when the cars being built?

I'd happily drive to any dealer that could install the real bluetooth headunit.

I would like to know this too, I find the Parrot system useless!

The dealer i went to is posted below they gave a rough estimate of about £600-£700 and said it would involve replacing the entire radio unit but otherwise it can be done.

After e-mailing a few dealers I got this response from one of them:

As I say unfortunately the original Bluetooth pack is factory fit only. I have priced up the parts you would need to retrofit and these come out at £715.81 inc VAT. This includes the module, wiring harnesses that I can see are separate, the screen, indicator stalk, microphone, fascia plate for the stereo and the dashboard inserts. This is not fitted.

Because we have never done this before in the past there is no guarantee that this will work as Ford intented and there isnt a time quoted for fitment so I cannot quote you a price for labour. Ford will not comment on whether this will work as a retrofit however they do state that the screens are not interchangeable between low spec and high specification audio units.

Unfortunately I think I'll give it a miss. I knew id be ripped off for having it fitted but he doesnt sound too encouraging that it will even work and I wouldnt wanna pay out all that money for it not to perform as intended and having to get it all changed back again. Not to mention it could introduce rattles/problems that wernt there before.

Would be interesting to see if anyone has had the work done here though.

Nope, a few have tried but none successfully.

nice find - I take it you charge the unit up rather than having a cable running down to the power socket?

As ever, Hendy Ford demonstrate first hand that they have no clue about the cars they sell.

(Can you tell I don't like them much?)

Unfortunatly i dont like hendy much either i want to get cruise control and they are adament that it cant be done. But sadly hendy are the only dealers in hampshire. If anyone knows where i can get a cruise control fitted it would be appreaciated.

You have Sparshatts in Botley, Adams Morey in Millbrook, Daron Ford on Hayling Island, (a couple on the IOW, lol), Bognor Ford and Cuff Miller in Littlehampton.

Hendy are diabolical. I know it's not the same at each location, but their general attitude stinks - a lot like Polar Ford up North, who just throw their weight around and couldn't care less about their customers - because there will always be another around the corner.

Retro-fitting any of these type of things is always a tricky job. Ford will always try and quote you for the work, as it will rake them a fortune.

However, I look at it this way. If when building the car, it is a dealership option, the job is easy and can be done anywhere. If it is a factory build only option, then retro-fitting is likely to be a pig.

No doubt it can be done, but just remember that trim being removed in just about any car, never seems to be the same again (i.e. squeak/rattle/vibrations etc). Or the tabs etc will break and Ford won't tell you.

I have almost every option other than cruise control, but retro-fitting would be more hassle than it's worth.

I think i might have to get a parrot kit, even tho i really don't want to! My dealer said it would cost around £600-£700, aprently a new dash and head unit costs quite a lot. I'm really gutted, thats the only thing that i want on my and i cant have it :( lol

Hi, so after all this did you eventually fit a handsfree fit yourself. I looking to fit parrot ck3100 to my mk7 fiesta and would appreicate any guidance, eg

1- where are the wiring harness connections located?

2 - do I need to remove the radio, or can I get to the harness by removing just one of the footwell panels?

3 - do I need any speacail tools?

4 - where best to fix the device, I was thinking just above the CD slot, eg easily viable, and accessable, or alternativly in fron of the gear stick where there is a small vent looking facia?

5 - think you need speacial harness to match the car and handfree device, if you installed your device where did you get your harness from?

6 - do you need a special code for the radio, and if so why?

Thanking you in advance of any help.
