How to change a bulb

Featured Replies

Hi I am having a problem with the tailgate stop light Sometimes it works with a tap. I think I will renew the bulb/s in it but i can't see how to do it, its the light in the top middle of the tailgate, (see the pic I have ringed it to be sure) When i am asking this question on the internet it shows me how to change the bottom bulbs.

Is there any screws on the cover or behind it in the tailgate? If not might be the case of prying it off but I wouldn't do that if it's certain if that's the way it comes off.

Cant see any screws Zain611

If there are no screw holes on the surface then you'll probably need to pull the trim off from inside the tailgate.
Be aware that there is a possibility that most third brake light units on Fords nowadaya are LED and would mean replacing the unit

Should be a w16w bulb.

Open the tailgate and there is a trim piece directly behind the brake light, approx 30cm in length. Using a pry tool or flat hard screwdriver (protect the plastic with a cloth) lever the trim off, it can be a bit stubborn. You will see 2 holes in the tailgate, put your finger in (oo err) and release the clip, repeat in other hole. The unit should then pop out from the outside of the tailgate so you will need to lower it at this point.

Changing the bulb should be easy from there. It could be the contacts are dirty or the bulb has worked loose so give them a spray with contact cleaner or similar.

Hope this helps.
