Does eco boost mean I can change gears later for example 3rd i might wait a while or does it mean something else? i'm wondering because I've been told it means i can wait longer before changing gears and i'm been driving my new car a month or so and i'm not convinced that's the case.

It's just Ford's name for a turbocharged petrol engine. If anything, the extra torque of a turbocharged engine should enable you to change up earlier .

There are loads of threads on here about economy or otherwise if you have a good search around, but without knowing what particular car/engine you have, no-one would be able to comment specifically - my Fiesta averages about 45 for example, but you won't see anywhere near that from the 280ps 2.3 in the Focus ST (which is still labelled Ecoboost), for example!😀
