Mk7 1.4tdci noise when running

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2010 1.4tdci and when it's running it makes a whining sound which sounds like a noisy fuel pump, and also it seems as though there is vibration in the fuel lines. Does anyone know if this car has a low pressure lift pump in the tank? Or any other suggestions? Any help most appreciated. Thanks.

I am pretty sure there is no pump other than the one driven by timing belt but would not like to say 100 percent certain

Wouldn't think there is one myself, but what could the noise be??

There is a low pressure pump fitted inside of the sender unit

Is that for sure? I've seen senders advertised but don't seem to have a pump? I would like to find out before stripping the tank out as it seems the only viable option? Thanks

Ford very rarely fits lift pumps to diesels. It is listed under 7zap.com as a sender (only). Also check for a fuel pump fuse and a cut-off switch. Pumping diesel out into a fire after a crash is just as bad as petrol. It may not ignite so easily, but it burns just as well!

If the noise is constant, even with the car stationary & idling, it should not be too hard to pin it down a bit with a stethoscpe (or handy bit of hose). If speed dependant, it is not so likely to be a pump, more likely a bearing or suspension component.

Not 100% but my Ford parts catalogue lists it as sender and pump assembly, might be worth ringing a Ford dealer and asking. But as mentioned above Diesel Fords rarely have in tank pumps most just use the high pressure pump on the engine.

The noise is coming from the fuel lines and vibration can be felt, seems unlikely a high pressure pump would be causing this. I can feel the vibration in the fuel lines near the tank.

Cheers mate, seems I may need to pull the tank out and see, can't seem to get a definitive answer whether there is a lp pump or not.

Hey,

Did you ever find the cause of the noise?

I've got something similar.

Hey Danny, sorry but you only make joint 5th this week for resurrecting a 1 year old post.

First place is a 6 year post, and Second is a 5 year old, but there's still time before Sunday for someone to breathe life into some long forgotten 10 year old post !!
