Lunch Ideas in the car ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm looking to share lunch ideas for dining in the car,

I'm working through the COVID-19 pandemic as I'm a chemical process operator for a top pharmaceutical company; I have a permit from the government to allow me travel to work,

I work different shifts each week including nights,

I now take all lunch breaks in my car as were encouraged to self isolate as much as possible for both our health and the sustainability of the business.

I'm not finding it that difficult as I have a tv tuner installed aswell as an aftermarket headunit amps & speakers to keep me entertained,

However I'm getting tired of ham & cheese sandwiches with a flask of coffee,

Any suggestions for lunch ideas greatly appreciated.

I used to go to hot food counters at petrol stations for a dinner or the odd McDonald's but sadly all of that has stopped.

Heres my new canteen

Tuna, cheese and onion, cheese and branston pickle, cheese and tomato, corned beef n pickle, egg mayo, thin cut beef, salmon, cheese salad. Combination of any of those should keep you nourished, oh, and crisps of course.

Edit: keep up the good work 😉

Roast beef and mayonaise with a bit of English mustard mixed in.
Chicken and mayonaise with some sweet chili sauce stirred in.
Both are my favourites.

Sent from my SM-G965F

Tuna and sweetcorn with pasta (although the pasta requires cooking and cooling first) and mayo/salad creme.
I used to do this when going hiking. All I needed was a spoon or fork to eat it with (wrapped separately of course).
You could do similar to above with ham, pasta and sweetcorn.

Might not be ideal though as you'd need to keep it chilled.

I also used to fill pita bread pockets with the same mix as above (tuna sweetcorn or ham sweetcorn).

Do you have the cooled glovebox?  I'm sure most of the Mk2.5s did, don't think it was Titanium only?  If not, things like egg & tuna probably aren't ideal unless you've got a freezer bag and ice blocks.

One thing not to eat in the car is grated cheese though...  I had to buy some last week as there was no sliced left (first world problems!)…  Time I'd got the sandwich to my face it was just empty bread with grated cheese all over myself!

Story of my life!

I found a genius solution...toasted the bread first, then added the grated cheese while it was hot so it slightly melted together.

Thank unfortunately I dont have a cooler in the glovebox, but I do work continental Shift work; so when I'm on nights the car will be cold and our son is currently going through a phase of putting various toys inside a bottle of tap water then putting it in the freezer to see how it looks 😅

So I can borrow a bottle to help keep things cold,

Thanks for all the suggestions guys; i am to try them all in time, I've bought some sliced salmon and wholemeal bread in Aldi thismorning so going to go with that tonight.

You could also buy a small esky and keep it in the boot... 👍
