Gearbox Issue Ecoboost 1.0

Featured Replies

Recently been finding I’m having issues getting my car out of 1st gear into 2nd when the car has been ran for a while. It just doesn’t really want to come out until it get slipped properly into neutral and then it acts as normal until I have to go back into 1st it happens again. Has anyone got any idea what it could be?

Cheers if you can help

Probably a worn/broken syncromesh

That shouldn't affect getting it out of gear.   I had a similar problem some years ago and it was caused by the slave cylinder.

Cheers both, really value your feedback!

If it goes into gear fine at a standstill with the engine running then it's a synchro issue.

It it only goes into gear fine with the engine off, but not running then it's clutch drag.  Either caused by the clutch itself or the slave/master cylinder.

Heat makes everything expand which is why it's worse after you've been driving a while.

Would have thought a slave cylinder issue would affect all gears not just 1st to 2nd?

It's a long while since I had a slave cylinder problem (thankfully, given how they're hidden away these days), but the effect was greater in the lower gears, less noticeable higher up the box.

My car wont gear up or down into second gear when driving. When stationary every gear works perfectly and when driving all the gears work perfectly too apart from gear 2. What is the problem?
