SMax 2014 hibernation

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I wanted to let people know about a feature I discovered yesterday on my wife’s Focus, which also appears on my SMax. Due to Covid, we have been locked down for 9 weeks so haven’t driven the cars at all, in fact haven’t even opened them.  I thought I’d pop out briefly yesterday so first tried to unlock the Focus with the remote but it wouldn’t respond. I opened it with the key, assuming that the battery was depleted but there was a continuous chiming (which confused me) and after about 10 seconds the alarm went.

The remote I had still didn’t respond and I assumed that the battery must be flat (it wasn’t) so I tried the other one. That didn’t respond either. So I had to refer to the book to discover that the alarm has to be disarmed by turning the ignition on. Once I did that and started the engine, everything was ok again.

The book doesn’t mention anything about the hibernation feature but I discovered it here:

Thought this might help someone else in a similar situation.
