Second gearbox failure in 18 months!

So, the second (automatic) gearbox in our 2012 S-Max has failed after only 18 months and 20,000 miles!

To provide some context, we purchased the car from Trust Ford in 2014 for c£17,000, opting for the Trust Ford service plan (the car has only ever been serviced by Trust Ford). The first gearbox went in June 2018 at 58,000 miles, which Ford repaired under warranty. Fast-forward 18 months and the second gearbox has failed,this time at 20K miles.

Trust Ford ran a diagnostic which confirmed the gearbox was faulty, however the parts department are saying that as the gearbox is out of warranty they cannot help. We therefore contacted Ford Customer Relations but they are saying that, due to the age of the car, it is not financially viable for them to offer a repair, and referred us back to the parts department as the gearbox was faulty. And around in circles we have since been going!

This decision by Ford has effectively written-off our car, as the cost of the repair is pretty much the same amount as the car is worth.

So can we take from this that, according to Ford UK, a car costing £17,000 in 2014 with mileage of c80K should only last 8 years?!

Also, from a customer perspective I see Ford as a single company. How can it be right that different departments within Ford are able to shirk responsibility and blame each other?!
